Crime of the Week – Electronic Equipment Scam

Crime of the Week – Electronic Equipment Scam

An old scam has made its way back to Chatham-Kent. Over the past several weeks, in areas across the municipality, people have been approached by individuals offering to sell “new” tv’s, stereo’s, video projectors and camera equipment.

The suspects often use the story that they are brand new, high end electronics that are overstock items and are available at the significantly reduced price. In reality they are pieces of junk.

If you are approached by someone offering you this deal of a lifetime don’t engage them in conversation and contact the police immediately. Chatham-Kent has strict bylaws for “door to door” sales and once advised of the penalties the suspects clear the area.

Remember “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.”
