Crime of the Week – Scam

A new scam has been reported in our area and it targets your generosity and kindness.

The suspects, often well dressed and pleasant advise the victims that they are on a lengthy urgent road trip and have lost their wallet. The state they are stranded in need of money for fuel. In a few incidents the suspects have attempted to obtain the victims credit card along with cash. Sometimes they offer to give the victim fake gold jewelry as collateral.

If you are waved down on an off ramp from the 401 or approached in your community by a person attempting this scam, obtain as much information possible about the suspect and the vehicle they are driving. Then contact the police or Crime Stoppers immediately.
