Crime of the Week – Stolen Bicycles

Crime of the Week – Stolen Bicycles

As the new school year approaches parents are buying new bicycles for their children.

Each year the Chatham-Kent Police Service recovers hundreds of stolen and abandoned bicycles but often unable to identify the owner because the theft is unreported. Additionally, sometimes bicycles are reported stolen however the owners are not able to provide serial numbers to the Police.

Most bicycles come marked with a serial number or they have distinguishing features. If yours does not have a serial number, engrave an identifying mark on the frame. You can also mark your wheels and components as well.

Remember to always notify the police if your bicycle is stolen. Registering your bicycle will greatly assist in its recovery.
